Finished My Assessment!! ^^
I've finally finished my IST Database Assessment and am going to submit it to the nominated folder on the network's W: drive on Monday. It's about 61.9 MB in file size which is quite large compared to the estimated 30 MB, and should be available for collection from the W: drive by the end of lunch, if not earlier. I hope that the database works on the school computers as I created mine on Microsoft Access 2007 (running on compatibility mode) and it may not be absolutely compatible with Microsoft Access 2003, but I have enclosed a converted 2003 version in my database folder just in case. Also I've tested that all the songs (mp3 file) are previewing and playing and should be working at school as well and have saved wma version of the songs in case the mp3's don't work. I also figured out how to make the images come up in form view. They need to be converted to bitmaps before being inserted into the table and converted through the image options to be displayed as a picture.
Overall I think this assessment went well and though I encountered a few problems, I was able to fix them before submission.

Thank You.

Additional Work: Using Macros
This is activity wasn't a part of the original set tasks for the term, but I decided to add it in as an extra entry because I used it in my database assessment. A macro works as a set instruction and once you edit in your preferences in the macro builder in Microsoft Access it is able to perform your set instruction such as closing a form, cycling between records and prompting a search. Once created, a macro can be used as an alternative to a button. By clicking and dragging the selected created macro into the design view of a form, a button will appear using the commands provided within the macro.
Because there were a few issues with the buttons in my original database about "ambiguous file names", that I wasn't able to fix, and when I asked Mr. Lennon he didn't know either, I wasn't able to use the command button feature as required in the assessment task. Though I did still post an entry on how to create a button to show that I do know how to create and use one. But instead of using buttons I decided to try an alternative and use macros. These macros were able to perform the same thing as the buttons but could be customised more and there was a much wider range of uses for them. They also weren't hard to create and I found that I could expand on the navigation operations of my database through these macros.
Here is a screen shot of the macro builder, showing just a few of the possibilities a macro can reach to fit the creators intended commands;

Sorry if I couldn't follow the task description and use buttons but I think you'll find that my use of macros still meet the marking criteria as shown on the assessment sheet.
Thank You.

Adding Buttons To A Form
This task teaches us how to create buttons in a form as a form of navigation. These buttons allow us to do things like close the form, prompt a search and other similar operations. They are created through a "Command Button Wizard" as show in the screen shot below and by just following the prompts and selecting your options a button will be created for you. These buttons can also be customised to display the text of your choosing, an icon or picture and can display your own choice of colour.

The Stress Kills
Ok it's about 11.45pm and I still haven't finished my IST assessment.
I'm hoping we'll get more time because it's due tomorrow and a lot of people haven't finished.
It was harder for me to complete this assessment as I had Access 2007 at home and at school we used Access 2003 and a lot of what you were able to do in 07 wasn't compatible with 03, so there were limits as to what I could and couldn't get done within my time at home.
Also as an added extra I edited 30 second samples of all the songs in the database for previewing. All that's left to do now is to add in the buttons for all the forms but those aren't compatible with 03, so I have to finish off those at school.
I plan to submit this database via USB as the file size is way to large to upload and is about 60MB without the buttons, plus the Word Document for Part A of the assessment.
Hoping I'll get this done...
Marielle.

Inserting Sound & Image Files Into A Database
~Inserting Sound & Image Files Into A Database~
In this activity we learnt how to insert sound and images into a database through the table.
Sound and images are shown up as "packages" in the table and can be used in databases that store music, just like the objective of our term one assessment. So seeing as I've started my assessment, I might as well demonstrate inserting sound and images through it.
Having made a table with the fields you want to use to contain your sounds or images, make sure the data type is set to OLE Object before saving, then when in design view right click underneath the field you wish to put the sound or image in and "insert object". Then simply just search for the file you want to insert and follow the prompts given to insert.
Here are two screen shots of how to insert the sound or image into the already constructed table.
